Peyton Hill
Lead Pastor
What do you do at Christ City Church?
I shepherd, preach, pray, and lead.
How did Jesus change your life?
My parents and local church gave me gospel kindling that the Spirit eventually set aflame into a passion for Jesus. Even though I knew I was a sinner and needed a Savior early in life, God did a huge work in me when I was a senior at Mississippi State. He broke me over my sin, gave me a love for the Word, and magnetized me to Jesus. I know my standing with a holy God is secure because of the work of Jesus in my place.
What education and ministry experiences has God used to equip you for pastoral ministry?
I earned my undergrad degree in Biological Sciences from Mississippi State University, but I’ve really only used it when helping my kids with their science homework. I’m super thankful for the seminary education I received at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (MDiv) and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (PhD in Applied Theology).
I have served and led churches in Georgia, Ohio, Alabama, and Florida before planting Christ City. I’m thankful for each church and the awesome people there.
I’m also thankful I had the opportunity to coauthor Exalting Jesus in Numbers in the Christ-Centered Commentary Series. Great for study or to induce deep sleep.
What do you love about Huntsville?
It’s a beautiful place with amazing people, a growing food scene, and lots of movement as people pour in from all over the country.
What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?
My kids think I’m athletic because I love sports, but their mom is actually 10x better than me at every sport we play together.
If you were to have your childhood dream job, what would your job be?
Beach lifeguard
Which fictional character would you be friends with in real life, and why?
Theo of Golden–he’s kind, a great question asker, and generous.
Favorite way to spend a free Saturday?
Sleep late, coffee and Bible/books, fun adventure with the family, lunch out, sporting event in the afternoon, Chipotle on the couch with my kids, a late night talk with my wife, and then read fiction before falling asleep.
